Combat to Conquest: Vasil's Path to Success

Combat to Conquest: Vasil's Path to Success

Not long ago, Vasil faced a life-altering challenge when he underwent amputation following his injuries. Yet, his spirit remained in one piece, and his journey from the frontlines to the podium is a testament to the will of a true champion.

“We had the honor of fitting Vasil with a Levitate running blade in January,” recalls Dima, Vasil’s prosthetist at Superhumans, the organization instrumental in Vasil’s rehabilitation. “It was evident from the start that he was destined to run, and run fast.

Superhumans, dedicated to rehabilitating Ukraine’s wounded heroes, provided not just physical support but a beacon of hope for many like Vasil. His rapid adaptation to the Levitate running blade and his leadership qualities were immediately apparent.

Vasil got his Levitate running blade in January this year, and during a test run event in February organized by Superhumans and Levitate, Vasil not only showcased his prowess but also stepped up as a leader, guiding his peers through the nuances of adapting to their new prosthetic technology. “That’s leadership,” Dima from Superhumans added.

Vasil’s aspirations soared beyond recovery; he aimed to excel in the competitive arena. “I wanted nothing more than to become active once more,” Vasil shared. His determination saw him join Team Ukraine for the Invictus Games, setting the stage for his remarkable achievements in Las Vegas.

At the United States Air Force and Marine Corps Trials 2024, Vasil stunned the audience and competitors alike, securing gold in both the 100m and 200m sprints. His performance was not just a victory against his category’s rivals but a resounding triumph over adversity itself.

“Running with a lower limb amputation, Vasil proved to be faster not only than rivals in his category but also those without amputations,” Lasse Madsen, CEO & Founder of Levitate, noted. “His performance is a powerful reminder that with the right tools and support at disposal, the only thing holding you back is you.”

Vasil’s journey would not have been possible without the help of Superhumans and Direct Relief. With Direct Relief’s operational grant, we were able to train specialists at Superhumans, enabling them to provide the best care possible. We owe a big thank you to both partners.
