When Deanna Campbell from Georgia decided to have her right leg amputated below the knee, her next goal was to start running. Fox 5 has covered her incredible story.
Deanna Campbell’s life was forever changed in her teenage years when she was involved in a traumatic accident that left her with a totally crushed right ankle. Over the years, she endured multiple surgeries to stabilize and realign her ankle, but nothing seemed to help. Living with chronic pain for 31 years, Campbell finally made the life-changing decision to have her right leg amputated just below the knee.
The decision to choose elective amputation was not easy for Campbell. However, the results have been nothing short of miraculous. After struggling with pain for so long, Campbell’s quality of life has been transformed. She’s now able to live a more active lifestyle, enjoying things like running that were once impossible. On top of that, Deanna recently ran her first road race with her husband, a one-miler.
Campbell’s inspiring story serves as a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there’s always hope for a better future.
