Christian’s Journey: From Determination to a 5K Dream
Christian Palacios was born with fibular hemimelia and tibial valgus, a congenital condition that led to over a decade of surgeries. When the procedures stopped working, doctors presented a difficult choice.
“They gave me the option to amputate my leg because at that moment, they didn’t really have another option. My parents gave me the opportunity to make my own choice, and after watching some other amputees, I decided to proceed with the surgery.”
He began rehabilitation at just 13 years old and committed himself fully to mastering his movement.
“I decided to push myself hard to accomplish the most perfect walking that I could master… I even had mirrors all the time so I could change patterns and improve them.”
Christian continued improving with the help of early support from Shriners. Even through financial hardship and limited access to equipment, he stayed focused on progress. Recently, he began using the Levitate Running Blade — and immediately felt the difference.
“As soon as I got it, I went out to the street… I think I have good control of my prosthetic leg by now, and I started running. The sensation was incredible — not having this hard thing hit your stump whenever you tried to jog or walk faster.”
Now, Christian is setting his sights on his next challenge:
“I think I’ll probably run my first 5K before this year ends — even if it’s slow. Then I’m going to go for your other system to use as my regular foot.”
At Levitate, we’re proud to be a part of Christian’s journey, supporting people who move forward with resilience, purpose, and the power of innovation.
